I have as yet been unable to confirm the details, or to find a better source.
It would good to locate and find out more about this portrait, and improve its resolution. Where is it? Is it a photograph? A painting? Both?
What are the baskets - presumably caissons for earthworks? Were the cannon placed behind such caissons?
How splendid to show him in full dress uniform, apparently on the field of battle, with medals won on that field. Notice his swaggering pose and foot on the cannon, as if it were a dead lion or tiger. Is the implication these are the guns the Russians had captured, against which the Charge had taken place - but which in this retrospective vision the Cavalry had successfully regained?

The Dickinson family were prominent mid-Victorian portraitists using both photography and painting - sometimes combining the two. It would be most interesting to follow this up.
