Born at Waltham Abbey, Essex, and was most probably a son of John Wray and his wife Elizabeth (nee Pilgrim) who were married at Waltham Holy Cross on the 18th of September 1833.
Enlisted at London on the 20th of January 1853.

Left the regiment for the General Depot at Scutari on the 27th of September 1854.
The muster roll states; "Believed to have died on board ship during the passage down," on the 28th of September 1854.
Next of kin: Mother, Elizabeth Wray, living at Waltham Abbey, Essex.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for the Alma but he is not shown on the Sebastopol clasp roll.
The muster roll states: "Believed to have died on board ship" between the Crimea and Scutari on the 28th of September 1854.
