Birth & early life

Born in Leeds.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 24th of March 1855.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: None shown.

From Private to Corporal: 1st of October 1857.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of January 1858.

Transferred to the 18th Hussars on the 1st of March 1858.

Appointed to Troop Sergeant Major on the 18th of April 1858.

Died at Secunderbad, India, on the 28th of July 1867.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal only. (See record of 1941 Samuel Briggs.)

Landed in the Crimea after the 9th of September 1855, but is specially entitled to the Crimean medal in consequence of having served with the Regiment in the Expedition to Eupatoria during the month of October of that same year... Camp Aldershot, 16th of November 1857.

Letter sent to O/C. 18th Hussars at Aldershot asking "if man is still serving with that Regiment".

Medal sent to him on the 9th of November 1859.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Death & burial

The India Office records show him as dying of "acute dysentery" at Secunderbad on the 28th of July 1867, aged 33 years. He was buried on the 29th of July by the Revd. R.C.W. Roberts, M.A. Chaplain.
