Birth & early life

Born at Balte, near Bath, Somerset.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 7th of August 1854.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Groom.

Features: Fresh complexion. Hazel eyes. Brown hair.

Service

From Private to Corporal: 20th of April 1855.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 20th of June 1855.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 5th of March 1856 for "being drunk, at Ismid" and reduced to Pte.

Discharge & pension

Discharged on the "Reduction of the Regiment", from Dublin on the 12th of January 1857:

"Is considered unfit for the duties of a soldier and never likely to become efficient in consequence of a weakly constitution. A condition not attributable to the service nor indeed induced by vice or intemperance."

Served 2 years 114 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 10 months.

Conduct: "good".

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
