Birth & early life

Born in London.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London into the 3rd Light Dragoons on the 1st of February 1851. Regimental No. 2228.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: None shown.

From Private to Corporal: 16th of July 1852.

Corporal to Sergeant: 16th of July 1854.

Transferred to the 4th Light Dragoons on the 10th of March 1855 - per Authority of the Horse Guards, dated the 2nd of March 1855.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 20th of September 1855.

Attached to the 4th Dragoon Guards at the Cavalry Brigade Office from the 1st of October 1858.

Appointed Staff Clerk to the Cavalry Division at Aldershot on the 1st of May 1859.

Reduced to Private "By order of H.R.H. the Field-Marshal Commander in Chief" and returned to the Regiment." 10th of December 1862.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "time expired", from Newbridge on the 20th of February 1863. Conduct: "good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal only. (See record of 1941 Samuel Briggs.)

Landed in the Crimea after the 9th of September 1855 but is specially entitled to the Crimean medal in consequence of having served in the Regiment during the Expedition to Eupatoria during the month of October of that same year... Camp Aldershot, 16th of November 1857.

The medal was sent to him on the 12th of March 1860.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
