Birth & early life

Born at York.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Hounslow on the 9th of December 1854.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Moulder.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 16th of July 1855.

Shown on a nominal roll of officers and men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being On Duty there from the 9th of July.

Sent to Ismid on the 19th of November 1855.

The musters for July-September of 1858 show him as being "On Field Service" during the whole of this period.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of 0ctober 1858.

Served in the field at Rajghur and Mungrowlee with Captain William Gordon.

From Private to Corporal: 1st of June 1859.

Corporal to Sergeant 14th of January 1861.

Re-engaged at Colchester for a further 12 years service on the 12th of November 1866.

Shown on the Regimental "Married roll" from the 30th of May 1866.

Next of kin: his wife, Jane Rawlings.

Transferred to the 20th Hussars at Hounslow on the 26th of February 1868. Regimental No. 843.

Died at Canterbury on the 16th of January 1872.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp.

Death & burial

Died at Canterbury on the 16th of January 1872.
