Birth & early life

Born in the parish of St. George's, Hanover Square, c.1834.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 20th of September 1854.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Groom.

Appearance: Red hair. Blue eyes. Fair complexion.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

In the "Regimental Hospital" during May and June of 1855, at the General Depot, Scutari from the 20th of July and sent to England on the 8th of September.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 17th of February 1857, as:

"Unfit for further service — injury to right knee caused by a horse falling on him at Exeter in March of 1855. Is of an unhealthy constitution and also being inflicted with an impediment of speech is never likely to again become effective as a soldier."

Served 2 years 30 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 13 months.

Conduct and character: "good". Not in the possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Awarded a pension of 6d. per day for three months.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
