1572 Patrick LITTLE — 4th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born in the parish of St. Nicholas, Galway.

Enlistment

Enlisted into the 7th Dragoon Guards on the 2nd of February 1846. No Regimental number was allocated, as he did not join the regiment from the Depot.

Age: 19 years 3 months.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Clerk.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Blue eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Volunteered into the 3rd Light Dragoons on the 1st of April 1846. Regimental No. 1816.

From Private to Corporal: 1st of November 1852.

Transferred to the 4th Hussars on the 1st of July 1853.

From Corporal to Sergeant: on the 17th of April 1855.

He was Assistant Store-keeper at Balaclava from April of 1856 and did not rejoin the regiment until the 12th of August 1856.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Canterbury, "own request, after 24 years' service," on the 1st of March 1870.

Served 24 years 29 days. In the Crimea and Turkey, 1 year 10 months, India, 9 years 7 months.

Conduct: "very good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge when promoted to Sgt, and would now have had five.

Awarded a pension of 2/- per day.

To live at No. 41 Adelaide Street, Wallgate, Wigan, after discharge.

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean medal, clasps for A.I. and S., T.M., Punjab medal with two clasps and the Long Service & Good Conduct medal with a gratuity of £10.

Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Awarded the Punjab medal with clasps for Chilianwala and Goojerat.

Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal on the 6th of April 1867.
