Birth & early life

Born c.1834.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 15th of November 1853.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: None shown.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 26th of October 1854 and shown for the October muster as being in the General Hospital, for November as on board a Hospital ship and for December as being at Abydos. He was still at Scutari by the end of March 1855.

On the rear party when leaving the Crimea, being attached to the 8th Hussars from the 25th of April — 15th of May 1856, and returning with them to England.

The muster rolls for the July-September 1858 period show him as "On Detachment at Sholapoore" during the whole of the period.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1858.

In action against the rebels at Zeerapore on the 29th of February 1859 and at Baroda on the 1st of January 1859.

Discharge & pension

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp.

The Returned Medal Book shows "... Crimean, Mutiny and Turkish medals sent to the Mint. No trace of issue."

Commemorations

Death & burial

Died at Secunderbad, India, on the 1st of October 1864.

The India Office records show him as dying from "chronic dysentery" at Secunderbad, India, on the 1st of October 1864, aged 28 years 6 months. He was buried on the same day by the Revd. George English, Chaplain.
