Birth & early life

Born at Stourbridge, c.1823.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Birmingham on the 8th of November 1843.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 9"

Trade: Blacksmith.

Service

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

The muster rolls for the July-September 1858 period show him as "On Detachment at Sholapoore" during the whole of the period.

In action against the rebels at Zeerapore on the 29th of February 1859 and at Baroda on the 1st of January 1859.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp.

Commemorations

Death & burial

Died "on the march," in India on the 2nd of January 1859.

Died at Pupdale, Malwa, India, and was "buried in the field."

The Regimental "Casualty Returns" for the period show that he left no will, his credits being £2/17/8d. A brother, John, living in Tipton, Staffs, was shown as his next of kin and to whom his Crimean medal with three clasps was sent.
