From Private to Corporal: 1st of April 1845.

Reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 17th of September 1845. Transferred to the 3rd Light Dragoons on the 26th of February 1846. Regimental No. 1665.

He was a Saddle-tree-maker in that regiment and transferred as such to the 17th Lancers on the 1st of July 1853.

Medals

Entitled to the Sutlej medal with clasps for Aliwal and Sobraon, with the 16th Lancers.

Entitled to the Punjab medal with clasps for Chilianwala and Goojerat, with the 16th Lancers.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Possibly entitled to the Maharajpoor Star whilst serving in the 16th Lancers. There are no medal rolls for this award known to be in existence and the fact of his being entitled is based on a careful study of the muster roll for the period and eliminating those whose presence at the battle was doubtful.

Commemorations

Death & burial

Died "in the Regimental Hospital" at Ismid on the 7th of July 1855.

Next of kin: Wife, Frances Gravenor, living in Ipswich.
