Born in the parish of St. Luke's, London, c.1833.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 9th of June 1854.

Age: 21.

Height: 5'6".

Trade: Labourer.

Features: Fair complexion. Blue eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 29th of June 1955.

Transferred to the 12th Lancers at Cahir on the 12th of August 1856. Regimental No. 1826.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "Limited service expired", from Dublin on the 11th of June 1866.

Character, "very good."

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Served in Central India under Sir Hugh Rose in the operations against Ghanzi, Calpi, or Gwalior.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

A man of this name was shown in the 1881 Census as living at No. 48 Rand ? City, a Labourer in a Paper Mill, aged 48, born in Middlesex, with his wife, Matilda, aged 36, born in Dublin and four children, aged 11 years to 2 years.

Further information

A Private Matthew John Graham [sic], was married to Matilda Bond, spinster, at St. Botolph's without, Aldergate, London, on the 25th of December 1861. The marriage, which was "without leave", was solemnised by the Revd. W.C.F. Webber, and witnessed by Edward Brown, Lt. and Adjutant, 12th Lancers.
