Birth & early life

Born at Burnley, c.1834.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Manchester on the 27th of December 1854.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Flax-dresser.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of June 1855.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 17th of August 1855 for "absence, and disgraceful conduct. Offering a Government mule for sale." Awarded 50 lashes, of which 25 were remitted.

Tried by Court-martial at Brighton on the 7th of February 1857 for "Theft". Sentenced to 168 days imprisonment and given 50 lashes,

Volunteered to the 3rd Dragoon Guards at Aldershot on the 1st of February 1857. Regimental No. 205.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Commemorations

Death & burial

Died at Nusserabad, India, on the 17th of August 1861.

The India Office records show his as dying, "of cholera".

He was buried on the 18th of August, "By the Officers Attending."
