Further information

Is believed to have been wounded at the battle of the Alma, but James Nunnerley, in his Memoirs, states that he was struck by a bullet in the back, but having a cholera belt on it turned the spent bullet so that it went round inside his trouser waist to the front. On putting his hand there, he drew the bullet out, thinking that it had gone right through him, but he was not hurt. (See copy of this story in the "Memoirs" file.)
