The Regimental "Casualty Returns" for the period show that he was born at Margate, Kent, and was a Labourer by trade.

The muster rolls for the period July-September 1858 show him as no particular service movement having taken place.
In action against the rebels at Zeerapore on the 29th of December 1858 and at Baroda on the 1st of January 1859.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
Mutiny medal without clasp.
The Returned Medal Book states Mutiny medal sent to the Mint. "Issued", 22nd of June 1875, but not shown to whom.
Died at Gwalior, India, on the 29th of May 1859.
The India Office records show that he died at Gwalior on the 29th of May 1859 from "sunstroke", aged 35 years. He was buried on the 30th of May by the Revd. E.E. Tarlton.
He left no will, his credits being £2/9/9d. His next of kin were shown as a brother, James, living in Pimlico, London, and a sister, Mary, living at Reading, Berkshire.
