Birth & early life

Born in Marylebone, London, c.1835.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 6th of May 1854.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Servant.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Blue eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea from Brighton on the 20th of June 1855.

At the Cavalry Depot from the 31st of October to the 19th of November 1855.

Shown on a nominal roll of officers and men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being on the Staff there from the 4th of November.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Kilmainham, Dublin, on the 27th of November 1856 as:

"Discharged through loss of hearing. Is permanently incapacitated from the duties of a soldier through Dysocea. He cannot hear the words of command. Definitely not produced through the conditions of his service."

Served 2 years 205 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea, 11 months.

Conduct: "a good soldier."

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Aged 21 years 4 months on discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Commemorations

A letter of invitation to the Jubilee Celebrations was sent to him on the 19th of June 1897 but he is not shown on any list of those actually present, and a letter regarding his pension was sent to him on the 10th of May 1900, but it was returned by the Post Office, dated the 29th of May 1900, as "Died, 29th of August 1899".

The GRO records show his death, aged 60, in the Wandsworth registration district of London, in the July-September Quarter 1899.
