Birth & early life

Born c.1832, his father's name (as stated at AD's marriage in 1861) was Matthew Dixon.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 15th of May 1854.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: None shown.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea on the 8th of April and joined the regiment on the 29th of April 1855.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

The muster rolls for the period July-September 1858 show him as being "On Detachment at Sholapoore" during the whole of this period.

In action against the rebels at Zeerapore on the 29th of December 1858 and at Baroda on the 1st of January 1859.

Marriage

The India Office records show him as marrying Ellen Henderson, a widow, at Secunderbad on the 10th of April 1861. Their ages were shown as 26 and 28 respectively. His father was shown as Matthew Dixon and hers as Joseph Lee. The ceremony was conducted by the Revd. Pigot James.

Transferred to the 5th Lancers on the 1st of October 1865. Regimental. No. 1134.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Canterbury Depot on the 17th of February 1866.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with the clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp.
