Birth & early life

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 12th of January 1855.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: None shown.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 15th of June 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 17th of September 1857.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Died at Nusserabad, India, on the 20th of October 1859.

The India Office records show him as dying of "acute dysenteria" at Nusserabad on the 20th of October 1858 and being buried by the R.C. Chaplain on the 21st of October.

13265 James Rawlins recorded in his diary:

"October 20th. Another death took place, poore Sergeant [sic] Cooke, he died about 8 a.m. and on the 21st was burried."

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
