Birth & early life

Born at Mitcham, Surrey.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 13th of February 1853.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 9.

Trade: Labourer.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Wilson Kennedy" on the 2nd of May 1854.

Served in Lord Raglan's Escort Troop during 1855.

He is shown on a nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being On Duty there from the 4th of November.

Tried by a District Court-martial on the 15th of September 1856 for "Desertion" and sentenced to 56 days imprisonment.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "time expired", from Aldershot on the 15th of June 1865.

Served 12 years 16 days, to count.

Conduct: "Indifferent."

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

Served at Kotah.
