Promoted to Quartermaster (without purchase) on the 1st of November 1859 and confirmed in that rank on the 28th of December 1859.
Exchanged into the 4th Hussars in the same rank on the 20th of July 1867.
Retired on half pay on the 28th of March 1874.
Quartermaster in the 47th Foot from the 12th of May 1875.
Exchanged (in the same rank) to the 13th Foot on the 29th of September 1877.
To Hon. Captain and on to half-pay on the 27th of August 1879.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Served at Kotah and Gwalior.
Married at York, on the 21st of May 1865 to Mary E. Walker by the Rector of Fernfield Church, York. There were two children of this marriage up to the 1st of April 1870:
Frederick George, born on the 2nd of April 1866 and baptised at Aldershot
Arthur Martin, born on the 6th of July 1867 and baptised at Manchester.

Died on the island of Jersey, on the 23rd of April 1882.

"Carey — On Sunday the 23rd inst. at his residence, "Clearview", St. Saviours, Captain Michael Carey (late of the 13th Regiment) aged 53 years. Relatives and friends, please accept this intimation."
