Birth & early life

Born at Bedford.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 30th of December 1852.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Cart-maker.

Service

Sent sick to Scutari on the 26th of October 1854 and rejoined the regiment on the 24th of February 1855.

Attached to the 12th Lancers as one of a Letter Party to H.Q. Cavalry Division from the 10th of March 1855.

Sent to the Depot at Canterbury when the regiment went to India. 1st of October 1857.

From Private to Corporal: 23rd of December 1857.

Arrived at Bombay, en route to join the regiment, 26th of April 1858, joining it on the 8th of May.

"Committed suicide" in India on the 10th of June 1858.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Can find no trace on the Mutiny medal roll.

Death & burial

"Committed suicide" in India on the 10th of June 1858.

The India Office records show him as dying, aged 25 years, of "pistol wounds, self-inflicted, during a period of temporary insanity", at Kirkee on the 4th of June 1858.

Buried on the 5th of June by the Revd. Francis C.F. Reynolds. Chaplain.
