Birth & early life

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dublin on the 16th of March 1846.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: None shown.

Deserted on the 15th of February and rejoined the regiment on the 31st of March 1854. Sentenced by a Regimental Court-martial to 84 days imprisonment.

Sent to the Cavalry Depot on the 19th of April 1854.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 26th of April 1855.

Tried by a District Court-martial at Aldershot on the 18th of May 1856 for "Desertion" and was sentenced to 168 days imprisonment, with hard labour.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Killed "in action" at Gwalior on the 17th of June 1858.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Lummis and Wynn state that "he did not go to the Crimea," but he is to be found on the Sebastopol clasp roll.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

Served at Kotah and Gwalior.

Further information

The Returned Medal book states — Crimean and Mutiny medals returned to the Mint. No trace of issue,.
