Birth & early life

Born at Wymondham, Norfolk.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 14th of June 1839.

Age: 22 years 11 months.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Butcher.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Returned from India aboard the "Repulse" on the 27th of March 1842, having left Bombay on the 28th of December 1841.

Sent to Scutari on the 13th of October and rejoined the regiment on the 14th of December 1854.

Discharged, "to deferred pension, he having accepted the conditions of the Royal Warrant of the 1st of June 1848", from Brighton on the 27th of June 1858.

Aged 40 years 4 months on discharge.

Conduct: "a good soldier".

In possession of three Good Conduct badges.

Served 17 years 184 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 10 months

In India: 3 years 7 months.

He was granted a pension of 6d. per day in 1875, at which time he was living in London.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol.
