Birth & early life

Born at Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Coventry on the 29th of December 1846.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Knitter.

Service

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain", 8th of October 1857.

The muster rolls for the period July-September 1858 show him as no particular service movement having taken place, only the date of his death being recorded.

Died in India on the 27th of August 1858.

The Regimental "Casualty Returns" for the period show that he died at Kirkee, India. He left no will, his credits being £1/4/1d.

His next-of-kin was shown as his wife, Ann Marie (to whom his Crimean medal with three clasps was sent), and his mother, Mary, both living in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Can find no trace on the Mutiny medal roll.
