Joined the Regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of June 1855.
From Private to Corporal: 1st of October 1857.
Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of March 1858.
Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 20th of April 1858 and reduced to Private "for neglect of duty."
Discharged from Dublin on the 20th of November 1860, as:
"Unfit for further service — In breaking out of barracks on the 6th of September 1859 he fractured both bones of the right leg, the result now being the impaired use of the limb to an extent disqualifying him from further service."
Served 5 years 284 days.
In Turkey and the Crimea: 10 months
Conduct: "a good soldier".
Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.
Once tried by Court-martial.
Granted a pension of 6d. per day for 18 months.
A letter was later sent to the Medical Board enquiring "whether the Governor of Kilmainham Hospital in recommending the award of a pension to this man took into consideration the cause of the man's disability?"
No reply is recorded.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
