Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 13th of December 1860, as "Unfit for further service - Labours under confirmed heart disease - the result of constitutional pre-disposition. Neither caused nor aggravated by mis-conduct. His constitution is such as to materially affect and interfere with his earning his livelihood."

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.
The 1881 Census Return shows him as living at No. 1 Allen Road, Hornsey, Middlesex, a Beer House Keeper (Seller) aged 64, born at Olney, Buckinghamshire, with his wife, Cecilia, aged 55, born at Aphelton, Suffolk.
