Service, discharge & pension
At the School of Musketry, Hythe, from the 28th of June - 2nd of September 1866.
Sent to the Depot at York on the 11th of September 1866.
Next of kin: Wife, Ann Hynes. (He had sent her money from the Crimea when she was living in Baklinalee, Ireland.) Is shown on the Regtl. "Married roll" from the 5th of May 1848 and they had five children by August of 1867.
Medals & commemorations
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.
A "Fresh medal" was granted on the 14th of August 1856.
Was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal with a gratuity of £5 on the 5th of October 1867.
A group, containing the Crimean medal with clasps for A.B.I. and S., the T.M. and the L.S. & G.C medal, named to "Bartholomew Hynes. 13th Hussars." was sold from the "Gaskell" collection at a Glendining's auction on the 24th of May 1911.
Death & burial
Died at Colchester on the 16th of September 1873.
He was buried in Colchester Borough Cemetery on the 19th of September 1873, the Cemetery records stating that he was brought from Camp St. Botolph, was 45 years of age, a Roman Catholic by religion and was interred in an unpurchased grave, No. A-16-64, no headstone being erected.
