Birth & early life

Born at West Derby.


Enlistment

Enlisted at Glasgow on the 7th of February 1855.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Groom


Service, discharge & pension

Embarked for the Crimea on the 4th of September 1855 and arrived in the Crimea at Balaclava as part of a draft of 50 men under the command of Lt. Robert MacNeill, on the 29th of September 1855. Served in Eupatoria.

Deserted "off furlo" from Newbridge on the 6th of September 1856.

Rejoined the regiment on the 5th of Augusrt 1857, tried by a District Court-martial and in Dill Military Prison from the 13th of August to the 8th of October 1857:

“Absent from Watch-setting" at Newbridge. on the 8th of February 1858 and shown as a deserter from the 9th.

Can find no further trace to March of 1867.


Medals & commemorations

Entitled to Crimean medal without clasp and the Turkish Medal.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
